Background and Structure

External Quality Assessment (EQA) is a division of QMP-LS. One of its principal functions is to improve the quality of laboratory services through assessment and education by the evaluation of the performance of laboratory tests. Analytical processes are evaluated using challenge surveys with simulated and fresh patient samples, while patterns-of-practice surveys and questionnaires address pre- and post-analytical issues.  Results provided by participating laboratories are evaluated against fixed criteria and peer review for accuracy, precision and timeliness. Laboratory performance is assessed using a uniform error classification scheme.
