Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA) division of QMP–LS  is developing educational tools and guidance to help prepare for accreditation.

Guidance for Laboratory Quality Manuals

(Version 4.1, October 2011)

In Electronic format only – Version 4.1. An essential requirement of the Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA) program is the design and implementation of a quality management system.  Central to an effective quality management system is the creation of a laboratory quality manual, the top tier of a facility’s quality system documentation. This guide will help Ontario laboratories write a quality manual that meets the criteria defined by the OLA Program Requirements.

Traceability and Measurement Uncertainty for Medical Laboratories

The purpose of this document is to provide the following information for accredited medical laboratories:

  • An understanding of the concept of traceability, within which determination of measurement uncertainty is required.
  • Guidance for obtaining calibration certificates.
  • An explanation of the applicable accreditation requirements.
  • Acceptable approaches to determine measurement uncertainty estimates for quantitative and semi-quantitative laboratory tests or examinations included within the scope of medical laboratory accreditation.

OLA Position Statement - Inter-laboratory Comparison Surveillance

Participation in and performance on formal inter-laboratory comparison, i.e., proficiency testing/external quality assessment (PT/EQA), are monitored on an on-going basis. Laboratories holding accreditation certificates must participate in formal inter-laboratory comparison schemes, where available and appropriate, for all examinations included in the scope of accreditation.
