Mark your calendars because The International Society for Laboratory Hematology (ISLH) will be returning to its roots in Canada! The next ISLH symposium will be held in Toronto May 10–12, 2013 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, with a pre-meeting workshop May 9 hosted by QMP–LS and sponsored by IQMH and ISLH.
Returning to its roots
In 1986, ISLH held its inaugural “Technical Innovations in Laboratory Hematology” in Banff, Alberta. This first meeting in Canada led to the foundation of ISLH as a non-profit organization in 1992.
Symposium history
The ISLH was founded with the goal to chart new directions for laboratory hematology. It provides a unique forum for members to exchange new ideas and information on the subject of laboratory hematology. From the inaugural meeting in 1986, it has evolved to the widely-acclaimed ISLH symposium and is regarded as the world's leading laboratory hematology meeting for education, innovation announcements and information flow. The ISLH meeting is hosted in North America, Europe and Asia with the most recent meetings in (Miami, USA, 2007; Sydney, Australia 2008; Las Vegas, USA, 2009; Brighton, UK, 2010; New Orleans, USA, 2011; Nice, France, 2012) attracting 700 to 900 participants, 20 to 25 commercial exhibitors and hundreds of quality posters.
The meeting is globally recognized as the key international laboratory hematology symposium for all hematology disciplines:
- Cellular Analysis
- Flow Cytometry
- Hemostasis and Thrombosis
- Platelets
- Point of Care
- Hematology Laboratory Informatics
- Molecular Diagnostics
- Hematology Quality and Standards
- Hemoglobinopathies
ISLH 2013
The ISLH 2013 planning committee is working hard to provide an interesting and informative program to follow the QMP–LS Pre-meeting Workshop. The meeting is being held in conjunction with the 2013 meeting of the North American Specialized Coagulation Laboratory Association (NASCOLA). The program co-Chairs are Dr. Marciano Reis (Toronto) and Dr. Betsy Van Cott (Boston, NASCOLA President). The Executive Director of the conference is Dr. Catherine Hayward (Hamilton, ISLH Executive Secretary and the immediate Past-President of NASCOLA). The program includes plenary sessions, the Berend Houwen lecture, simultaneous sessions, poster sessions and simultaneous oral abstract sessions that will cover the full dimensions of laboratory hematology. Details of the 2013 scientific program will be announced in the early fall.
QMP–LS participation at the 2012 ISLH Symposium in Nice, France
At the recent 2012 ISLH symposium in Nice, France, members of the QMP–LS Hematology Scientific Committee presented three posters that attracted the interest of many symposium attendees.
While participating in the 2012 ISLH meeting, Anne Raby and Dr. Catherine Hayward took the opportunity to encourage international participants to attend the 2013 ISLH in Toronto, Canada as QMP–LS will host an informative Pre-meeting Hematology Workshop with support from IQMH and ISLH.
