Eye on OLA - OLA Assessment History Report

Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA) has received questions concerning the assessment history report, namely what it is and how do laboratories access it.  The OLA Assessment History Report, first released in October 2008, is located in your laboratory’s QView™ account in a subfolder entitled “OLA Assessment History”; the report is entitled Record – XXXX OLA Assessment History Report, where XXXX is the identification number assigned to your laboratory.

Morphology and Bone Marrow Digital Morphology (DM) Surveys

In 2010 QMP–LS conducted bone marrow and morphology digital morphology (virtual microscopy) pilots. These pilots provided insight regarding the educational and practical value of adding virtual imaging to EQA. QMP–LS will continue to investigate the use of digital morphology in 2012.

Job Opportunity: Consultant Technologist, External Quality Assessment (EQA)

QMP–LS’ External Quality Assessment (EQA) division is seeking a Consultant Technologist primarily to manage its Anatomic Pathology program. This is an evolving program that requires ongoing development and innovation in both routine histology and immunohistochemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to possess the flexibility to take on the administration of these programs in other jurisdictions or other EQA programs as required. QMP–LS is looking for innovation, fresh ideas and energy to take its EQA program to higher levels of excellence.

This one-day workshop will enable Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA) assessors to develop a new perspective and approach to the assessment day. You will learn from previous successes and opportunities for improvement identified through laboratory feedback.

  1. Review the keys to a successful assessment
  2. Provide pertinent OLA processes and procedures
  3. Show how the following can affect the outcome of an assessment:
  • Conversational questions

  • Interpretation of requirements

  • Wording of non-conformances

  • Assessor attitude
