OLA is pleased to offer our participants ISO 15189PLUS™ Accreditation. We are frequently asked about the importance of this certificate and the rationale for why it is important. This accreditation is funded by New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador. In Ontario it is an option available to licensed medical laboratories at an additional cost beyond the Ontario funded program. The assessment requirements are the same as the funded Ontario program, but the mid-cycle self-assessment is replaced with an on-site surveillance visit. Individual laboratories from other jurisdictions may voluntarily apply for OLA 15189PLUS accreditation through Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH).

The External Quality Assessment (EQA) division of QMP–LS is committed to providing high quality world class EQA programs. Increased material and shipment costs in recent years have lead to a review of current programs to identify areas where costs could be contained. As a result, retest samples have been selected as a target for cost recovery. This service is used by a limited number of participants in each survey and some laboratories request samples although original samples are not compromised or considered suspect. Starting with surveys dispatched in July 1, 2013. QMP–LS/IQMH will charge for material and shipping and handling costs for retest samples.
